New York (LoW prompt: Bubble)

The first couple of days had been like in a dream of pure joy. He still had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't actually dreaming, that it all was real. That more than just the fact that Warren was with him, that Warren loved him. That he ... even in his head he stumbled over the word, but he managed it...loved Warren.

There was fear there, too. Always fear, of what he could do. Of what he'd done before. That Warren would wake up one day and realize just who and what he was in bed with. That Warren didn't know the worst of it. The lives he'd taken knowingly. Purposefully.

That the full knowledge of him would burst the bubble of happiness they were floating in.

He pulled on his leather pants and shrugged into his silk shirt. Earring in, just one, shirt half unbuttoned. He added a touch of eyeliner, something to draw eyes to his. Nothing too elaborate. Nothing like what he'd paraded around in the years of Glam. But a touch. He was tousling his hair, adding in gel when his cell rang.

He glanced at the number and sighed. He almost didn't answer, but he finally did. He wondered how she'd known he was in town.

"Brenda."

"Devin, darling," her voice was always so chipper and yet refined. "You naughty boy, you didn't call and tell me you were in town."

He continued to fuss with his hair. "No, I didn't."

"I thought that was our arrangement."

"It's not? I call when I need work, luv, but currently I'm doing just fine." He wasn't, really, but his investments would hold. He'd saved well. He could afford to not have to work for her for a while.

"Devin..." She sounded like she was chiding him. "Kathryn saw your poster. She'd like to see you after the show."

"Not possible." He slapped on the aftershave a little too vehemently.

"And why not?"

"I have plans." He swallowed, closing his eyes as he prepared to cut the ties. "Rather permanent ones."

There was a long pause on the other end. "You're quitting?"

He took a deep breath. "Yeah. I am."

"You can't do that. You're my most successful..."

"Everyone quits at some point, Brenda. You did."

"You're at your peak!"

"I'm done." For now.

"Devin...you've always said..."

"I know." He leaned against the counter.

"You're the best."

He sighed, closing his eyes. "Yeah. I know." It was his particular gift. "I'm still done, at least for now, okay?"

Another long pause and then a sigh. "She must be something."

He smiled a little. "He is."

She chuckled at that. "Kathryn will still be there tonight."

"I'll deal with her."

"She's a very important client."

"I'll deal with her nicely."

"If you ever..."

"Yeah, I know. I'll call."

She sighed one more time and then he heard the click. He set the phone aside, closing his eyes again and rubbing his temples.

He'd need to book more gigs, for the energy and the money. Cut new CDs and push them. Maybe actually put up a website with ordering. Something to bring money in to keep them going. And he'd have to make these phone calls in most major cities in America.

It wasn't going to be easy, but he just...he didn't know what Warren would say. Didn't want to find out, if it disappointed him. Didn't...He wanted them to stay as happy as they were. Whatever it took. He'd just have to pull more from the audience. Take from them what he couldn't get elsewhere. He could make it work. He gave a resolute nod, and reached to work on messing his hair up just a bit more.

Devin brushed his hair back, fingers trailing along his cheek. "Are you sure?"

He nodded. Had to take a breath, but mostly because of the frantic kissing earlier. "Yeah. I'm sure."

Devin was still mildly worried, but he was also aching. He turned a bit reaching for the the lube he'd brought, just in case they got to this point.

He smiled a little, glancing at the bottle. "Whoever invented this stuff was a genius."

Warren smiled, and what came out was somewhere between a snicker and a giggle. "What ..." And then he realized Devin would actually know. "Hey, yeah. What did you use before we discovered better living through chemistry?"

And he leaned in to nuzzle at Devin's cheek, nip at his neck to cover the blush. "And.. which way d'you think would be easier?"

Devin grinned a little. "Vegetable oils mainly, or just saliva. Not nearly as smooth, but it did the job."

He smiled, nipped back. "Whichever you're more comfortable with, really. You're not going to hurt me if you top, but unless you're relaxed and mentally ready, it might hurt a bit if I do, at first." Just like for girls, but he didn't say that.

Warren wrinkled his nose. "Vegetable oils? Sounds like cooking." A smile in his voice.

"Figures. Always does the first couple times." He was thinking it, anyway. And a couple of other things that made his voice more serious. A little sad.

Devin played with his hair, brushing it back. "We don't have to, love, if you're not ready."

"It's not that..."

He dragged himself out of it after a moment, smiling slightly at him. "Just thinking. About first times, how..."

How the hell was he going to explain this.

"Just how sometimes you think the person's going to be forever. And..." He shrugged. Thought about the rest of it and stopped, snuggling into him, one arm around his waist. "Just thinking."

Devin frowned a little bit and wrapped his arms around him tightly, curling into him, not sure what to say to that as it brought up things he didn't want to think about.

Warren held onto him, swearing at himself in his head for ruining the mood. Again. Really good at that, he was.

Softly, he brushed a kiss over his forehead.

Devin smiled, closing his eyes and leaning into him. He lifted his chin for a soft kiss, fingers playing with Warren's hair.

Warren smiled shyly as he kissed him back, touched his cheek, fingertips trailing down his chest.

Devin shifted back, looking at him searchingly. "You're sure?"

Warren nodded. "I'm sure."

Devin smiled, just a little. "How do you want to do this?"

His answering smile was shy, heartfelt, and more than a little sheepish. "I'm. Um. Not sure about that part."

Devin ran fingertips down his spine, then back up. "It's your choice. Whichever you feel more ready for."

He shivered. "I'm up for either, I guess..."

He was, too. Quite blatantly, against Devin's body.

"Let's start with you. I can always say stop if it gets... too much." Warren leaned in, ran the tip of his tongue along the curve of his ear. "'sides. I'm curious to see what it feels like with you inside me."

He didn't even blush. That much. Because he was, really. What it would feel like to be together that way.

Devin shivered then, at the words, the touch, all of it making him want him even more.


"All right..." He kissed him with a sigh, fingers tracing his hip. He eased back enough to pour lube on his fingers, then kissed him again as he tried touching him lightly.

Warren shivered a bit, kissing him back. He started to try and make himself relax until he realized he was, and that it was only strange in that it didn't feel strange.

And then he smiled slightly against Devin's mouth, realizing what had happened earlier.

Devin smiled back, then nipped at his lower lip, still taking things almost excruciatingly slow, just brushing fingers over him. He kept waiting for the tenseness to come back, trying to distract him from it.

Warren's breath started to catch. It didn't bother him, and he kept waiting for it to bother him, too, but Devin kept touching. Kissing. He kissed him back, slow and careful and gentle, letting himself get lost in everything.

He moved with deliberation, slow and gentle and he sighed slightly as he eased one finger into Warren, nipping at his lip sharply at that point.

Warren made a soft whimpering noise, a little surprise in it, but also pleasure and even need.

It did feel strange. But it didn't hurt. The oddness of it didn't intrude, and the nip felt good. Real good.

Devin pressed closer to him, rocking a little against him as he kissed him harder, sliding a second finger in to join the first, stretching him slowly and gently as he reached deeper to brush over his prostate, remind him of why this felt so good.
