Glass -- New York, Friday Night

They'd given them a park facing room, which was more than Devin had hoped for. He brushed his fingers over the cool glass of the doors, then stepped outside on the balcony, letting the sounds of the city wash over him. He took a sip of whiskey, smiling to himself as he watched the warm early evening light warm the buildings and the tops of the trees. It was warm and the air conditioner in the room kicked on in protest of the open door, but he just let it run, listening to the sounds of Warren in the room behind him.

Even now, the heat from their little game still lingered, flushing his cheeks. The whiskey in the glass was cool, but not cool enough. He was cursing himself that they only had one bed, but when he'd booked the gig, and the room, he hadn't expected Warren to be coming. He figured he'd be pursuing his other gig while here, but then the invitation spilled out and here they were. He wasn't coming down off a high. He'd slept a lot the last few days. He'd been eating. He wasn't fragile and out of it, and sharing that bed was likely to test his resolve to the limit, especially after the teasing.

He wasn't likely to sleep much.

But he didn't want to push Warren. The flirtation was delightful. The game moreso, but he was the one who wanted it to be more than just a game, not Warren. He had to remember that part and not push, no matter if that "later" teased at his memory. He slid fingers over glass and imagined briefly it was skin, then pushed those thoughts away. He could behave.

"Our reservation's at six." He called back over his shoulder, straightening even as he kept his gaze fixed on the people scurrying below, drinking in the life of the City. "We should probably leave by 530. It's just around the corner, less than half a mile. Walk or cab?"

Devin was as near sprawled against the wall as you could sprawl standing up, returning the gentlemen's looks with just a small smile. Under other circumstances, given the looks they were giving, he'd try and hustle them, but he had Warren this weekend, so he'd behave.

His hand slid from Warren's belt loop, along his waist, down his arm to his hand as he straightened to exit the elevator, nodding to the gentlemen with that same smile.

Warren slipped his fingers through Devin's with the flash of guilt that was slowly becoming familiar. It was just pretend. Just a show, all part of the fun.

Except it kind of wasn't. They hadn't needed to put on a show in the room. And they'd been moving, acting, feeling...

... he still remembered that heat.

Devin blithely moved through the lobby as if the other inhabitants were there solely for his delight, doing a very good impression, were any of them alive who'd ever seen the King move through a lobby, of Elvis. A smile here, a nod there, grin flashing as confidently as if they were all screaming his name and throwing their underwear at him.

More than a few of them wondered if they should be.

He kept a casual, but firm, grasp on Warren's hand, and turned that wicked grin back on him when they made it to the street.

"And that is how it's done."

"I'm taking notes," Warren told him with a smile. And he kind of was, too. Mental notes, moving, smiles. Easy, relaxed.

"Excellent." Devin gave him an approving nod.

"Park's this way." Which wasn't very rock star of him, but he was Sidhe as well.

Warren followed with an eager nod and a not very rock star like bounce in his step. But he was new in the city, and things were still exciting.

He didn't pull his hand away from Devin's, either. Wasn't sure if he should or not. Might as well, not.

Devin grinned when they crossed the street and hit the path through the trees, breathing in the smell of leaves and grass.

"It's like this...huge oasis."

Warren was definitely bouncing by the time they got there.

"It's like you can't even tell you're in a city..."

"Isn't it perfect? I used to come here in the afternoons and just sit and listen and play in time with it all until it was time to go to work."

He lifted his face to the sun a bit, smiling.

Warren's eyes slid toward him for a moment before he was back to looking around at the park in wide-eyed wonder.

"I can see why," he murmured. Remembering what that meant.

Devin smiled a little more and looked over at him. "It's...." He shrugged a bit.

"It's peaceful here. The trees are old."

Warren gave him a searching, somewhat inscrutable look.

"I'll have to remember that."

He flushed a little. "Now I'm talking like Fergus. Someone shut me up, please."

Warren quashed his first impulse and grinned over at Devin.

"Not a chance. I like hearing you talk like this."

And there was just the faintest too-long pause between that and:

"Gives me ammo for later."

Devin gave him a narrow look.

Warren gave him the most innocent eyes, the sweetest smile he could manage.

"Oh, don't even try that...." Devin made a face at him. "I know better."

"Damn." Warren grinned. "It was worth a shot."

Devin smiled and tugged his hand.

"C'mon. Farther up and farther in."

"You're not Aslan." He grinned, following, reaching up and scruffing his hair lightly. "You're not fuzzy enough."

"That's 'cause I shaved," Devin said solemnly.

Warren laughed.

Devin grinned, glad to have gotten that out of him. He settled them more into a stroll along the path, smiling at passerby.

Warren tried to relax. It was both easier and harder than he'd expected. By now just about every place they'd gone to, Cracker Barrel and the hotel and everywhere, seemed to be looking at them like..

Well, it was a vacation. Weren't they supposed to be having fun?

He hadn't quite figured that having fun would look like this, though. He pushed it out of his mind, trying to ignore the fact that he was walking hand in hand with Devin. Just enjoying the park.

Devin barely noted it, except to notice how nice it was to see all of this with someone else. He held on to Warren loosely, and hummed a little under his breath, one of his ballads, light and lilting.
